Overview

Bouncy Barrier is the cream for skin that has run out of patience with lightweight gels. The texture is genuinely unusual — a dense, springy cream that holds its shape in the jar and then melts the moment it touches warm skin, spreading into a thin, comfortable layer that absorbs without a heavy or greasy film. That spring comes from the lamellar structure of the emulsion: we build it to mimic the layered structure of healthy skin lipids rather than just mixing oil into water.

It is rich enough for genuinely dry skin, winter skin, post-retinoid skin and high-altitude or hard-water climates — and it is not so heavy that combination skin cannot use it at night.

The Vessel

The jar is unglazed terracotta ceramic, made in small batches, with a cream-white screw lid. It is heavier than plastic on purpose — it should feel like something you keep rather than something you throw away. The refill pouch holds a full 50 ml, costs $8 less, and uses 84% less packaging by weight. You keep the jar, you snap in the refill, you keep going.

We are not going to claim this makes the product work better. It does not. It makes the waste smaller, which is a separate and sufficient reason.

The Formula

The core is a ceramide complex with cholesterol and free fatty acids in approximately a 3:1:1 ratio — the ratio found in healthy stratum corneum, and the ratio that studies suggest repairs a damaged barrier faster than any single lipid alone. Add 5% squalane from sugarcane for light, non-comedogenic emollience, 3% glycerin and sodium hyaluronate for water binding, and 2% shea butter for the occlusive seal that stops all of it evaporating overnight.

There is no silicone, so the slip you feel is from the lipids themselves. No fragrance, no essential oil, no drying alcohol.

How To Use

Warm a pea- to hazelnut-sized amount between your fingertips and press — do not rub — over slightly damp skin, morning and night, as the final step before SPF. On very dry days, press a second thin layer over the cheeks. It sits well under makeup if you give it two minutes, and it is an excellent overnight mask when applied slightly thicker.

Pairs best with Barrier First underneath: serum first for the actives, cream second to seal them in.
